The Seyochung Village Students’ Union (SVSU) visited Government High School, Seyochung Village, as part of its regular school monitoring programme. The purpose of the visit was to observe the school’s development, assess progress, and engage with the school authorities and staff.

During the visit, both teaching and non-teaching staff shared several pressing concerns. The school currently lacks basic toilet and urinal facilities for both students and staff. In addition, there is no water supply, severely hampering daily operations. Another major issue is the absence of staff quarters, making it difficult for teachers commuting from outside the village.

SVSU President Longtili C. Sangtam assured the school authorities that the union would take up these issues with the concerned departments and work toward finding solutions at the earliest. He reaffirmed the union’s commitment to improving the educational environment in the village.

The President also expressed gratitude to the District Education Officer (DEO) Kiphire and the Department of School Education for the recent appointment of an Assistant Headmaster (AHM), which has strengthened the school’s administrative functioning.

However, the union appealed for the urgent posting of a Science teacher, as the subject is currently not being taught due to the lack of a qualified instructor.

Sangtam noted that SVSU has been conducting monthly visits to the school to collaborate with the staff and support the institution’s functioning. One positive development acknowledged by the union is the school’s complete reliance on solar energy—a commendable step toward renewable energy use. The President expressed hope that more such green initiatives would be adopted in the future.
