Kohima, 6 March (MTNews): A Consumer Outreach Program organized by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) took place at Hotel Japfu, Kohima, on 6 March 2024, with Additional DG(Telecom), DoT NE LSA, Sushil Kumar as the chief guest and M Ali Shihab A, the Secretary of the Department of IT, Government of Nagaland, as the guest of honor.

Sushil Kumar, while addressing the gathering, emphasized the significance of the day’s event in terms of both the telecom perspective and consumer awareness. He highlighted the importance of protecting consumers’ interests, especially in the context of cyber security and smart devices.

Concerning telecom connectivity in Nagaland, he expressed gratitude for the government’s support and hoped for continued cooperation in expanding telecom facilities to all district headquarters of the state.

The Secretary of the Department of IT, Government of Nagaland, M Ali Shihab A, commended the decision to organize the program in Kohima and involve the student community. He encouraged students to seize such opportunities, emphasizing the government’s commitment to inclusive development and initiatives like Universal Service Obligation Funds (USOF) for digital connectivity.

He stressed the need for better connectivity, especially as the government proposes an IT Hub in Nagaland, and urged community engagement to bridge the digital divide. The program aimed to reach out to telecom consumers, providing awareness about TRAI’s initiatives and consumer-centric measures.

Presentations covered various topics, including consumer-centric regulations, value-added services, mobile number portability, and measures against telecom fraud. A session on electromagnetic radiation from cellular towers and presentations on cybercrime and cybersecurity were also featured. An interactive session allowed participants to address queries related to telecom services.

The program was attended by officials from the Information Technology Government of Nagaland, various telecom service providers, and students from educational institutions in Kohima. The welcome address was delivered by Joint Advisor, TRAI, Ashim Dutta.
