Welcoming the gathering, Soyim Students’ Union president Talionen Longkumer described the occasion as a celebration of unity, friendship and shared traditions between the two communities. He said the meet reflected the strong bond nurtured over the years and highlighted how such interactions strengthen mutual respect and cooperation. He encouraged participants to embrace the richness of their diverse heritage and continue building a relationship that connects them as one extended family.

Speaking on the theme, Rev Dr Noklen Longkumer stressed that cultural identity is a powerful strength that must be preserved and promoted by the present generation. He stated that cultural diversity should not be viewed as a barrier but as a means to foster connection and understanding. He urged individuals to broaden their perspectives, build relationships beyond their immediate circles and actively share cultural values to create a more inclusive and harmonious society.

Mokokchung Municipal Council councillor Imtiyapang Jamir traced the origins of the bond between Tuophema and Ungma villages to 2001, when it was initiated by elders including SC Jamir and Neiphiu Rio during the Sekrenyi festival. He noted that the relationship was revitalized in 2021 through the efforts of the student bodies, with the first renewed meeting held at Hotel Vivor. He expressed gratitude for the enduring relationship and hoped it would continue to grow stronger in the years ahead.

Tuophema Village Youth and Sports Organization president Vikeduo Seyie emphasised the role of youth in sustaining the bond. He called on them to remain united, seek guidance from elders and continue supporting one another while working towards shared goals.

The programme also featured ‘A Tale of Tuophema Village’ by Keneitsituo Kense and ‘A Tale of Ungma Village’ by Amongin Imsong, followed by vibrant cultural performances by local artists from both unions, adding energy and color to the event.
