In a commendable move towards inclusivity, for the second time in Mokokchung district, the Leden Mepu polling station of Ungma Village, will be manned entirely by polling officials who are Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). The team of PwDs, consisting of a presiding officer and three polling officers, will officiate at the polling station on 19 April 2024.
Merenyanger, the presiding officer, shared that this is the second instance where a team of PwDs will oversee a polling station. The first such initiative took place during the 2023 General Election in New Reserve, Chuchuyimpang, Mokokchung District.
As part of this inclusivity drive, it was informed that polling stations across all constituencies now have ramps and are accessible for PwDs, thereby facilitating their participation in the democratic process.
