In response to rising concerns over extortion and illegal taxation on National Highway 2 (NH-2), the VK Area GB’s Association, VK Range Students’ Union, VK Area Peoples Organization, and public leaders held an emergency general meeting on 14 October 2024 at VK HQ Town Hall. The gathering aimed to address the growing activities of various underground factions along the highway.
During the meeting, the civil bodies unanimously passed a resolution to “strictly prohibit all forms of extortion and illegal taxation” on NH-2 within their jurisdiction. They emphasized that “noncompliance with this resolution will result in harsh penalties,” with severe consequences for any individuals, groups, or organizations found guilty.
The civil bodies further appealed to underground factions, urging them to “refrain from engaging in extortion and illegal taxation at NH-2.” They warned that if these factions fail to comply, the civil bodies will be “forced to withdraw our cooperation and take collective action.”
Additionally, the VK Area GB’s Association, VK Range Students’ Union, and VK Area Peoples Organization reaffirmed their commitment to work alongside the administration and police department to keep the 20km stretch of NH-2, from Doyang to Izheto Village, “free from anti-social elements.” The civil bodies stressed their “pledge to safeguard the well-being and protection of travelers,” reiterating that “ensuring the safety and security of travelers has always been our top priority.”
For the safety of the public, the meeting also provided helpline numbers for travelers to report any incidents, mishaps, threats, or unwanted interactions with anti-social individuals or groups:
