In a developing border dispute between Assam and Nagaland, tensions have flared in Longtsiri village, Wokha district. The situation escalated when Assam police personnel allegedly intruded into Naga Lotha settlement along the Assam-Nagaland border, sparking outrage among residents.
According to reports, seven armed Assam Police personnel, lacking proper documentation or orders, entered the area under the guise of overseeing construction activity related to the Disturbed Area Belt (DAB). However, villagers vehemently opposed the unauthorized presence of Assam police on their land, emphasizing their rights.
The Gaon Bura of Longtsiri village recounted the incident, highlighting the lack of prior notice or communication from the Assam authorities. Following objections from villagers, the Assam police reportedly left without explanation, leaving behind a sense of frustration and anger among the locals.
Furthermore, concerns about the lack of basic infrastructure such as roads, electricity, and water supply were raised by locals, exacerbating the situation. Elderly members of the community expressed their distress, citing recurring incidents of harassment by Assam police and pleading for government intervention to address these fundamental issues.
“The Nagaland government should set up an NAP post here,” one of the locals suggested, adding, “Due to bad road conditions and poor electricity, water problems, the police are unable to come and stay here. So I request the government to look into such matters at the earliest.”
Similar concerns were raised by more locals urging the Nagaland government to provide transportation, water, and electricity to prevent further abuses.
