Congress leader and National Media Coordinator, Mathew Antony, along with Chairman of the Public Grievances Department, NPCC, Mashenlo Kath, and several party workers, visited Wokha on 25 March. The team held a press conference at the Congress office in Wokha.

Responding to queries regarding their expectations from Wokha, given the fact that the PDA candidate hails from the district itself, Mathew Anthony expressed high hopes for Wokha’s future. He cited the recent comments made by Nagaland Forest Minister CL John regarding the human-elephant conflict as an example, suggesting that such instances are making the residents of Wokha increasingly aware in choosing their representatives.

The Congress delegation also emphasized the poor condition of educational institutions, infrastructure, and medical facilities in Wokha, highlighting these as reasons for citizens to cast their votes for the Congress.

Acknowledging the challenge of securing victory in the lone seat in Nagaland without a Congress legislator in the 60-member NLA, the delegation stated that their setbacks are due to malpractices during elections. They announced that preparations for their campaign are underway, with plans to bring in senior Congress leaders as star campaigners.

Regarding their stance on the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization’s decision to refrain from participating in the election, Mathew Antony stated that their demands are genuine and assured that the issue is receiving careful consideration from the All India Congress Committee (AICC). He noted ongoing consultations among state Congress leaders and promised further clarity on the party’s stand on the issue from the state PCC president very soon.

He requested the people of Wokha to give Congress a chance and vote for Congress candidate S Supongmeren Jamir on 19 April for better governance.
