Wokha, March 16 (MTNews): All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on vegetable crops (VC), Nagaland Centre, SASRD, NU in collaboration with NEH Component for Onion & Garlic and NEH Component of Vegetable Crops, Nagaland Centre conducted a one-day Farmer’s Training program on “Holistic management of summer vegetable Crops” and “Input distribution” at Lotsu village, Wokha.

 

 

The aim of the training program was to highlight the farmers on the identification and management of the various insect pests and diseases in the farmers’ field and creating awareness on the organic and integrated management of the pests and diseases in our region.

 

The Technical Session I on “Holistic management of insect pests in summer vegetable crops” was delivered by Dr Waluniba, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Entomology, SASRD: NU where he emphasized on the methodology and various ideas on insect pest protection of vegetable crops including onion with the use of organic tactics. He demonstrated the use of pheromone traps in the vegetable fields and how it could help in managing the male insects.

 

The Technical Session II on “Holistic management of diseases in Summer vegetable Crops” was delivered by Dr Nayan, Asst. Pathologist, AICRP (VC), SASRD: NU where he emphasized on the various ideas and means to identify common diseases in vegetable crops and how they could be managed by integrated means.

 

The training was attended by about 101 farmer participants. The program started with a prayer by the Pastor of Lotsu village followed by a brief introduction from the village chairman. The wrap-up session was conducted by Dr Moakala Changkiri, Project In-charge, NEH Component & Scientist, AICRP-VC, SASRD: NU, where she encouraged the farmers to be more active especially in kitchen gardening and raising their standard of living.

 

Participants were distributed with good quality vegetable seeds for all season, other agri-inputs like neem oil, Organic biofertilizer, hand cultivator, Long rake, agro shade nets, HDPE nets, battery operated sprayers, portable vermi beds, potable water pump, wheel barrow, etc.

 

The Chairman of Lotsu village on behalf of all the farmers expressed their heartfelt gratitude to AICRP-Vegetable Crops, Department of Horticulture, SASRD: NU, NEH Component for Onion & Garlic and NEH Component of Vegetable Crops, Nagaland Centre for organizing such training program in their village and expressed their willingness to participate and promised full cooperation even in the future programs. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Moakala Changkiri. The entire training program was coordinated by Dr Moakala Changkiri and Mr Ovungthung.
