The tournament, which spanned over 4 days, saw enthusiastic participation from budding football players aged 20 and below, representing various local clubs and locales from across the district. The matches between the 16 participating teams were all interesting with each team displaying some remarkable skill and talent as well as determination and sportsmanship.

The final match of the tournament was a thrilling showdown between the Youngster FC and Revenant FC. In the end, Revenant FC emerged victorious with a score of 3-1, securing the championship title.

The tournament also recognized other outstanding performers, including the Best Player, Best Goalkeeper and Best Disciplined Team awards, which were won by Nungshijujang of Revenant FC, Imsutoshi of Revenant FC and Ao Temolung FC respectively.

The event concluded with a ceremony where the winners were presented with trophies, medals, and certificates of recognition.

The tournament not only provided a platform for young talents to shine but also served as a stepping stone for aspiring football players to be scouted by coaches led by veteran R Achi Ozukum who keenly observed the performances of the young players with the aim of identifying prospective talents for their teams and for the upcoming free intensive coaching camp to be organized by the end of May. The 4 month intensive coaching camp will also train any citizen of Mokokchung with the zeal for the sport, it was revealed.

Speaking about the tournament, Lanulemba Longchar, who is the manager of both Revenant FC and Moanungsang Memorial Sporting Club, expressed his delight at the success of the event. He highlighted the importance of providing opportunities for the youth to showcase their talents and develop their skills in a positive and competitive environment. He also emphasized the organization’s commitment to promoting sports among the youth and to empowering them through the sport.

“The tournament has revealed that there is no lack of talent in Mokokchung, but there is a lack of platform for the youths,” Longchar asserted. He said that the U-20 cohort is the best time to mold the youths but they are the ones that don’t receive the platform to play. The ‘catch them young’ tournaments are also mostly focused on schools now and there’s no push from the district sports office, he added.

Longchar said that the upcoming coaching camp for enthusiasts will provide a push to the players and team selection will also be conducted for the upcoming MDFA trophy.

According to the organizers, the 1st U-20 Revenant Football Running Trophy was sponsored in its entirety by Sentiyanger, owner of Revenant FC and proprietor of Unique Bakery.

Earlier in the day, a brief closing program was held where N Chuba Phom, Asst. Planning Officer, Govt. of Nagaland graced the program as chief match patron.

In his speech, Phom stated that the young players should be grateful to the organizers for taking their time, energy and resources to offer them a platform to showcase and improve their talents.

He stated to young players that this was their learning stage when they hone their talent with humility and to abstain from harmful substance abuses.

He further said that there is ample scope to earn a living for talented and dedicated players of the day in football and urged them to keep the football passion.

The closing program was chaired by Lawrence Imchen and the vote of thanks was moved by B Aoluin Aier, President, Moanungsang Memorial Sporting Club, while the invocation was said by Imcharen. The prize distribution was conducted by organizing committee convenor, Zulumanen Jamir.
