Mokokchung, 5 May (MTNews): Young Women Christian Association (YWCA) of Mokokchung celebrated its Silver Jubilee on 5 May at the YWCA office, Longpang Sector, Mokokchung. The Silver Jubilee celebration was held on the theme, ”We empower: Leaving no one behind.”

T Arenla Pongen, the first vice-president of YWCA, Mokokchung retrospected on the struggles they had and flashed back on how they functioned initially. Voice of the Youth was delivered by Imsubenla Jamir, Youth Secretary where she talked about how working with YWCA provided her platforms and various opportunities for exposure and enhanced her leadership skills.

 

The silver Jubilee was graced by YWCA Patron, LH Thangi Mannen where she talked about YWCA’s background, events and passages and explained how YWCA works for the welfare of the women and children, gender equitable awareness of women empowerment and advocates the rights of women in general.

 

“They also create employability, financial stability through vocational training and community intervention by implementing grassroots activities and projects,” she added.

 

She further highlighted seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and stated they may seem too high to achieve but said, if a person tries to do their bit, each person can contribute in attaining these Sustainable Development Goals.

 

YWCA Mokokchung started in the year 1998 with T Arenla Aochenlar as president, T Arenla Pongen as vice president, Apokla Ben as General Secretary and Lemshila as Recording Secretary, Alemla Mary as Finance Secretary, Jemtila as Treasurer and Padmashree Chubalemla as Patron.

 

YWCA Mokokchung initiated two learning institutes, Vocational Training Centre (VTC) which offers basic stitching skills and a preschool named ‘Cradle point’.

 

The present officer bearers of YWCA Mokokchung are Dr Temjensangla Pongen, President; Rongsenmenla , Vice-President; Wapangchila Jamir, General Secretary; Maongkala, Recording Secretary; Dr Kilangnaro, Finance Secretary; and LH Thangi Mannen, Patron YWCA.
