Mokokchung, February 10 (MTNews): The first edition of the Mojabi Futsal Tournament organized by the Küpza Students’ Union Mokokchung got underway at Mojabi Futsal Turf Salangtem Ward on Friday with 32 teams vying for the title. The tournament is a two-day event that will culminate on February 11.
During a brief address, N Alemla, President of Küpzatsür Telongjem Mokokchung, stated that the world is advancing at a rapid pace and that Futsal as a sport has already gained popularity around the world. She went on to congratulate the organizers for promoting the sport and establishing grassroots efforts for youngsters in Mokokchung.
It is a good and vital platform for promoting and nurturing the district’s emerging talents so that they can attain self-sufficiency and bring honor to the people, she noted.
Highlighting sports personalities and citing examples of Christiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Sachin Tendulkar, she went on to say that sports in recent times can be seen as a viable option to achieve a career and be self-reliant and further added that sports serves as a platform to bring peace and unity.
Earlier, Tongpangwati, President Küpza Kaketshir Telongjem Mokokchung gave the welcome note.
The champions of the two-day tournament will be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 30,000 and the runners up will receive Rs. 15,000 while individual prizes of Rs. 2000 will be awarded for the Golden Boot and Golden Glove.
