Tuensang, February 10 (MTNews): The Chang Baptist Lashong Thangyen (CBLT) has condemned the use of a Christian song during an election campaign in Tuensang. The CBLT did not mention the name of the party or candidate but the video of BJP supporters singing the Christian song by changing the name of Jesus to that of the candidate has been doing the rounds on social media.

In a statement on Friday, CBLT Executive Secretary Rev Achu Chang noted that “most Christian songs have a powerful testimony behind it.”

“It was therefore very appalling for us to witness this song distorted and so casually misused by political supporters for their convenience, with complete disregard to the spiritual and moral implications it will cause,” the statement read.

Further stating that it does not condone the act in any way, the CBLT urged all political parties and supporters not to dishonor “our living God” in such a manner in their political zeal.

“I as a Church leader along with the Clean Election Core Committee take the moral responsibility of our failure to timely educate and teach our church members and fellow Christians about what is sacred and what is not. l also urge my fellow believers to be gracious and forgive this offence committed (most probably in ignorance) and hope that this will also make our Naga Christians more careful and vigilant in the future,” Rev Chang added in the statement.
