Kohima, 24 July (MTNews): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has appealed to the State Government to consider the demands of the Nagaland Village Guards reasonably for the larger interest and also to safeguard the pride of the State.
It may be recalled that the Village Guard Association of Nagaland (VGAN) has declared a strike to be held on 27 and 28 July 2023 from 6:00 am to 5:00 pm in their respective districts. As part of the strike, the Village Guards will lay down their arms and refrain from performing their duties during the designated hours. The VGAN had appealed for an increase in their monthly salary from the current amount of 3000 rupees, as well as a daily allowance of 25 rupees.
“The Village Guards are the pride of our state and the first ones in line to uphold peace in the state,” the Nagaland Congress stated, adding that little recognition is given to them for their “tireless performance and dedication with full sincerity and faith from the remotest areas to the vast lines of international borders.”
The Congress further added, “They are the first spearheads of security on the line of duty before the administration to safeguard the State’s Law & Order. Their services, equipped with both Modern and Naga Traditional Warrior Warfare techniques, are much appreciated and sought out by the State Government as equally as police services in times of state security emergencies.”
Stating that no State function is complete without the participation of the Nagaland Village Guards, the Congress said that they should not be left as a “permanent primary status.”
“It would rather be the pride and honor of the State Government if the Nagaland Village Guards are given the due and deserving upgraded status in their service as well as their basic facilities,” the Congress added.
