Mokokchung, February 25 (MTNews): Nagaland, along with other states in India, will launch Intensive Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) on Sunday, 27th February 2022. The Department of Health & Family Welfare is all geared up to administer Polio drops to all children from 0-5 years throughout the state in 2206 Polio Booths to be manned by 9096 health personnel and 441 supervisors along with vaccines and other logistics. This was informed by Dr. G.R.Rio, Deputy Director, Universal Immunization Program, Directorate of Health and Family Welfare today. Special focus will be given to migrant population with an aim to prevent importation of Polio cases, he said, and further informed that head count for 0-5 years is 1,51,458.

 

He said that India has remained free of wild polio cases since January 2011 but added that India remains at high risk of importation till the whole world is free of wild polio virus. As per the recommendations of the India Expert Advisory Group (IEAG) on Polio, National Immunization Days are to be conducted covering all the children in the age group 0-5 years of age using bOPV (bivalent oral polio vaccine), he informed.

 

While thanking everyone for their past cooperation, the department appealed to all sections of the society, Government and Non-Governmentalagencies, including the security forces and police, organizations, churches and community leaders and especially parentsof children below 5 years of age to come forward and ensure that all eligible children receive the “Two Drops of Life” (Polio Drops) on 27th February 2022.

Meanwhile, the CMO Mokokchung has informed that Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization in the district will be conducted on February 27, 2022 along with rest of the country for children between 0-5 years from 8:00 AM onwards. In this connection, parents and adults have been asked to ensure that all children receive the Polio Drops from the nearest IPPI Booth.
