Mokokchung, March 25 (MTNews): A project on “Transfer of technology on Seed potato production and promotion of seed village concept” was launched by Tiakala Ao, General Manager, NABARD on March 25 in Longjang village, Mokokchung.

 

The project is co-sponsored by NABARD, KVK, Mokokchung and participating farmers. The project will be implemented by KVK, Mokokchung covering 10 acres of cultivation with 50 beneficiaries.

 

During the launching programme, Tiakala Ao, GM, NABARD shared that seed is one of the most crucial inputs in agriculture. She said that quality seeds should be the main focus to increase production and productivity, and urged the farmers to be consistent in their farming practices for better remunerative returns. She further encouraged the farmers to stay determined and committed with the project and set an example for the whole district.

 

Dr. Keviletsu Khate, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK, Mokokchung thanked NABARD for sponsoring the project. He informed the farmers that potato is one 0f the most important vegetables which is consumed by all and has huge market potential. He informed the farmers that the project area has good scope for future expansion and advised them to work sincerely so that this pilot project becomes a learning centre for farmers of the district.

 

Tokiho Achumi, ACTO, Agrnomy, KVK, Mokokchung also shared on the market potential of potato. He informed the farmers that the district imports a lot of potato from other states which is having a negative impact on the economic growth of the district. He advised the farmers that if the project becomes successful, then not only they will earn good income but also contribute in the economic development of the district.

 

The programme was chaired by Renbemo Ngullie, ACTO, Horticulture, KVK, Mokokchung. The programme ended with GM, NABARD distributing Knapsack Sprayer along with neem oil to the farmers.
