The 40th Nagaland Police Duty-Cum-Sports Meet 2024 kicked off on 14th November 2024 at Chumukedima Police Complex. The ceremony began with the assembly of participating teams, followed by the arrival of the special guest, Governor La Ganesan. The program continued with a rendition of the national anthem, stirring a sense of patriotism and unity among the attendees.


The Governor of Nagaland, La Ganesan, praised the officers for their commitment to excellence in both their professional responsibilities and athletic pursuits. He stated that the event is an opportunity to highlight values crucial to law enforcement, such as integrity, teamwork, and resilience.

He also mentioned that the Nagaland Police Meet not only tests physical abilities but also aims to strengthen camaraderie, unity, and joy among police personnel beyond the daily demands of duty. In his speech, he emphasized the essential balance between duty and recreation, highlighting how these sporting events contribute to the holistic development of officers. The Governor also paid tribute to the families and loved ones of the police personnel, acknowledging their vital support to the officers’ strength and dedication. He recognized the sacrifices made by families as the foundation of a strong and humane police force and expressed hope that the event would foster lasting bonds among police units, creating memories and experiences that transcend the competitive arena. He encouraged participants to view the meet as an opportunity for personal growth and professional enrichment, hoping that, as the competition unfolds, participants would return with a renewed sense of purpose and stronger bonds within the police community.

Robin Sharma (IPS), DGP Nagaland, in his address remarked, “This annual event is not just about competition; it is a celebration of the courage, strength, and dedication that each member of the Nagaland Police brings to their duty.” He added that these games help strengthen camaraderie and commitment to serving the people of Nagaland with honor. The Duty-Cum-Sports Meet, a much-anticipated event in the Nagaland Police calendar, includes a variety of athletic events such as track and field, volleyball, and team-building activities. Officers from various districts participate, showcasing their skills and engaging in friendly competition, with opportunities to perform at the national and international levels, Robin said.

Sharma also commended the athletes for their dedication and encouraged them to bring the same energy and spirit to their duties. “Our profession demands that we be at our best, physically and mentally, every day. This event is an opportunity for us to recharge, connect, and continue building a force that the people of Nagaland can rely on.” He added that this year’s meet promises to be an exciting blend of sportsmanship and professional duty as police personnel from across Nagaland showcase their skills in various events.

The highlight of the event was the grand march-past by the participating teams, showcasing discipline and coordination. At noon, introductory remarks were delivered by the organizing secretary, setting the tone for the event.
