The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Mokokchung, under the Department of Social Welfare, commemorated Child Rights Week from 14th to 20th November 2024 by organizing a series of events involving communities, school students, and stakeholders. The program was held under the theme, “Children of today, leaders of tomorrow.”

In observance of Children’s Day, the District Child Protection Unit, in collaboration with the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), celebrated the occasion with the children of Care & Support Children’s Home, Tsümashiong, Chungtia village.

An awareness campaign on Child Rights and the POCSO Act was also conducted by the District Child Protection Unit and Child Helpline Mission Vatsalya in different schools, targeting vulnerable children. Additionally, poster campaigns on Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation Act, 1986) were held at various public places, police stations, child care institutions, and offices.

The week-long Child Rights Week culminated with a consultative meeting of all stakeholders, chaired by Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Thsüvisie Phoji NCS. In the meeting, all stakeholders attended and presented their duties, functions, and services provided. They also shared the activities they have conducted for children.

Child Rights Week serves as a call to action for schools, communities, and institutions to engage in extending care and support to children in need and distress, as well as ensuring the protection of their rights.

The District Child Protection Unit and Child Helpline Mokokchung under Mission Vatsalya, Department of Social Welfare, Government of Nagaland, commenced Child Rights Week on 14th November and successfully culminated on 20th November 2024.
