Kobulong Block
Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Kobulong block carried out a demonstration on off-season cultivation of wheat intercropped with maize with an aim to determine the crop productivity, water use efficiency, soil management and economic benefits. The demonstration program was conducted at Yimchalu village in Mokokchung district on 31st March with Nuksunginla Jamir ATM as the resource person. She stressed on the various advantages of intercropping.
She covered all aspects of package and practices of wheat and maize Var.HQPM and deliberated on proper spatial arrangement using double row intercropping system, method of sowing, sowing time and critical stages of irrigation. She elaborated on awareness of identification and management strategies for FAW(Fall Army Worm) in maize.
Later, seeds provided by District Agriculture Office, Mokokchung were distributed to the farmers. Altogether 20 farmers attended the demonstration programme.

The demonstration programme was conducted at Sungratsu village in Mokokchung district on 31st March with Nuksunginla Jamir ATM as the resource person. She stressed on the principles and some objectives of intercropping system like choice of crops, maturity of crops, optimum plant density, time of planting, proper spatial arrangement and proper utilization of resources.
She deliberated on the various potential of intercropping of maize with french bean such as soil fertility, nutrient management, weed management and crop yield. Also stressed on its cultivation practices through row intercropping system. She elaborated on awareness of identification and management strategies for FAW (Fall Army worm) in maize.
Later, seeds provided by District Agriculture Office, Mokokchung were distributed to the farmers. Altogether 20 farmers attended the demonstration programme.
Tsurangkong Block
ATMA, Mokokchung, Tsurangkong Block conducted 3-days training in Vikuto and Aosenden Villages from 29th – 31st March, 2022. On 29th of March, Demonstration on cultivation practices of French Bean and Training on Mulching practices in Foothill Terrain was conducted at Vikuto village. Assistant Technology Manager Temsumongba, highlighted on importance of line sowing and mulching practices through inorganic and organic ways.
On 30th and 31st of March, Demonstration on cultivation practices of Maize and French Bean was conducted at Aosenden Village. Resource person Assistant Technology Manager, Abenla B Jamir, encouraged the farmers to go for selection of certified and healthy seeds. Intercropping of various crops was demonstrated to the farmers. Later various seeds were distributed to the farmers. Altogether 32 farmers attended the trainings.
Mangkolemba Block
Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Mangkolemba Block under Mokokchung District conducted Training and Demonstration program at Khar and Chungliyimsen villages on 30th and 31st March 2022.
The training was conducted on the topic “Management and control measures of Fall Army Worm (FAW)” at Khar village. Resource person Limawapangla Longkumer, BTM, ATMA, Mangkolemba block highlighted about the destructive nature of the pest, life cycle and identification of the pest at different stages. She emphasized on the management and control of FAW in Maize production.
Altogether 15 farmers attended the training program. General liquid and Minchu plus (BtKrustaki) were distributed to the farmers.
Another demonstration program was conducted on cultivation practices of Sweet corn and beans at Chungliyimsen village by resource person Amenla Jamir, ATM, ATMA, Mangkolemba Block. She highlighted the importance of proper plant spacing and weed management. Altogether 9 farmers attended the demonstration program. Seeds of Sweet corn, Beans, French bean, pea and HQPM Maize were distributed to the farmers.
Longchem Block
One day training on the topic “Good cultivation practices of Maize and Management of Fall Armyworm” was conducted by Agricultural Technology Management Agency, Longchem Block, Mokokchung at Nokpu village on 31st March 2022.
The farmers were first acquainted to the concept and functions of ATMA by Nungtisang Aier, BTM. He encouraged the farmers to use Agromet Services rendered by District Agromet Unit established at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) for weather forecasting.
Resource person Sakotsungba, ATM explained the farmers on the economic benefits of maize. He highlighted the protein content found in climate resilient maize variety HQPM 1. The farmers were trained on seed treatment, spacing, intercropping system and critical stage of irrigation. The farmers were also made aware of the increasing infestation of Fall Armyworm in jhum fields and stressed farmers for early surveillance, crop rotation and preservation of natural predators. The farmers were trained how to use biological insect repellents, pheromones traps and minchu plus (bio pesticide).
ATMA Longchem team lauded the farmers for their hard work and thanked for working towards food security. The farmers were distributed with HQPM 1 maize, Beans, Neem oil, Micro nutrients, and Bio pesticides. All together 15 farmers attended the training.
