Taking to social media platform X, Patton expressed his disappointment, emphasizing that accountability and discipline are essential for effective governance.

“Accompanied by Home Commissioner Shri Vyasan R, Special Secretary Home Shri Limasunep Jamir, Home Secretary Shri Orenthung Patton, and others, visited the Home Department, Nagaland Civil Secretariat in Kohima today for a surprise inspection and was deeply disappointed to find that 18 officials/employees were absent,” Patton posted.

He further stated that such absenteeism hampers the functioning of critical departments and affects the delivery of essential services to the people. “We are taking immediate measures in this regard,” he added.

This inspection follows the notification issued by the Nagaland Home Department on Wednesday, addressing concerns over poor attendance in various departments of the Nagaland Civil Secretariat, despite multiple efforts to improve discipline.

According to the circular, the department has decided to conduct surprise checks across all departments and branches of the Secretariat during official working hours, from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM.

It was mentioned that officials found absent without sanctioned leave will face disciplinary action, including the enforcement of the “No Work, No Pay” policy.
