The Chumoukedima District Village Councils’ Association (CDVCA) has submitted a representation to the Deputy Chief Minister (Home), Government of Nagaland, expressing strong opposition to the State Government’s decision to place Chumoukedima district under the “Open Category” for the upcoming recruitment of Police Constables (GD) in the Home Department.
In the representation, the CDVCA stated that while it appreciates the Government’s efforts to conduct a free and fair recruitment process for meritorious candidates, it “fails to understand why Chumoukedima district (as well as two other districts) should be placed in the Open Category as if there are no indigenous inhabitants in the district desirous to get Government employment and serve the society.”
The association reminded the Government that the creation of Chumoukedima district was aimed at giving equitable opportunities to its indigenous inhabitants. It said it “utterly resents the move to deprive our children to compete amongst themselves for job avenues, by enabling candidates from other districts to compete for the limited seats allotted to Chumoukedima district.”

Acknowledging the Government’s prerogative to take policy decisions, the CDVCA maintained that “in the instant case, the decision is biased and prejudiced towards the prospects and future of the indigenous inhabitants of the district.”
The association has demanded that the categorization be reviewed immediately and that “all permissible job opportunities in the district in all the departments of the State should mandatorily be filled up by Indigenous Inhabitants of Chumoukedima district only.”
The representation was signed by CDVCA convenor Razouvotuo Chatsu and spokesperson Sebastian Zumvu.
