“Let Your Action Shine” was the theme that set the tone for the first edition of the Men’s Open Volleyball Tournament, organised by the Sakhabama Baptist Khriesarüü Krotho (SBKK) on October 2, 2025, at the Sakhabama Local Ground.

The tournament was formally inaugurated with a meaningful programme. Special guest Limakumla Pongener, EAC Kezocha, encouraged the youth to embrace sportsmanship and discipline, noting that today’s young people are highly enthusiastic about sports. She highlighted that while the origins of sports can be traced back to ancient Greece, the modern Olympic Games were revived to promote peace and understanding among nations, celebrate human achievements, and encourage international fellowship and goodwill.

The inaugural session was chaired by Pelesato Chüzho, Associate Pastor, SBC, while Visüzo Rhakho, Chairman of SBKK, delivered the welcome address.

A total of 22 teams participated, representing almost all districts of Nagaland. The event also drew participants from Manipur and Assam, adding to its inter-state spirit and making the competition more vibrant and diverse. Matches were conducted under the supervision of the Kohima District Volleyball Association (KDVA), which served as the officiating body.

The closing ceremony was graced by Neilasanu Sachü, Assistant Research Officer, Department of Art & Culture, as the Valedictory Guest, with Vikhoto Kapu, Co-Convenor of the Organising Committee, chairing the session.

In the much-anticipated final, Zing Zing emerged as champions, claiming the top prize of Rs 40,000. Zenith Kezo Town secured the runner-up position with Rs 30,000, while Spike Squad Kohima and United Spikers Kohima finished as semifinalists. Individual awards were also presented: Best Spiker went to Vimechozo Thupre of Zenith Kezo Town, while Best Setter was awarded to K. Abinash of Zing Zing Kezo Town.

The vote of thanks was proposed by Thejangulie Yongo, Convenor of the Organising Committee, who appreciated the collective effort that ensured the success of the event.

As the first edition, the tournament marked an important milestone for the community, bringing together villagers, church leaders, and youth in a spirit of unity and healthy competition. More than just a sporting event, it was a celebration of discipline, teamwork, and community bonding.
