The Nagaland Government Teachers’ Association (NGTA) has placed its ongoing protest on hold following the intervention of the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) and the Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF).

According to information received, the NSF and ENSF assured the NGTA that they would “take up the matter with utmost sincerity at the earliest until justice is delivered and the mandate of the members is duly considered.” In view of this assurance, it was resolved to keep the protest “on hold until further notice.”

The NGTA has been demanding inclusion of its salary component under the State Non Development Expenditure.

RECAP | NGTA continues ‘peaceful democratic protest’ over salary placement for mainstreamed teachers

Over the years, it has submitted several representations and appeals seeking a resolution to the issue. However, in the absence of any concrete response, the NGTA issued a seven day ultimatum on February 16 to the Principal Director, Directorate of School Education.

Subsequently, it carried out a two-day pen-down strike from February 24 to 25. As the matter remained unresolved, the NGTA resorted to what it described as a peaceful and democratic form of protest from February 26 to March 3 at the Directorate of School Education, Nagaland.

AKM stands with NGTA 2010 and 2013 batches, seeks clear assurance on salary placement
The Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) has expressed solidarity with the Nagaland Government Teachers’ Association (NGTA) representing the mainstreamed SSA and RMSA 2010 and 2013 batches, backing the stand taken by the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) and the Eastern Nagaland Students’ Federation (ENSF) against the meeting minutes issued on February 27, 2026.

In a press statement, AKM extended “unequivocal support” to the representation submitted by NSF and ENSF to the Chief Secretary, Government of Nagaland, rejecting the February 27 meeting minutes. While acknowledging the State Government’s effort in convening discussions on the grievances of the teaching community, AKM said it shares the concern that the circulated minutes do not provide a “clear and definitive assurance” on salary placement once the Samagra Shiksha 2.0 scheme ceases.

The AKM noted that the affected teachers were mainstreamed into the State cadre through a 2022 Cabinet decision and are entitled to full service benefits at par with regular State Government employees. It stated that continued ambiguity over their post-Samagra Shiksha salary structure has heightened anxiety and created uncertainty that may escalate agitation.

“As a student-based organization, AKM is deeply concerned that failure to address this issue may severely disrupt the academic functioning of government schools across the state, ultimately impacting the welfare and future of students,” the statement said, adding that the stability of the teaching community is directly tied to the stability of the education system.

In solidarity with the NGTA 2010 and 2013 batches and in support of NSF and ENSF, AKM urged the Government of Nagaland to take “urgent, corrective, and time-bound action to provide a clear written assurance” resolving the concerns of mainstreamed teachers and restoring confidence in the education sector.

The AKM said it remains hopeful that the State Government will act responsibly and promptly in the interest of justice and academic stability for the student community.
