He cited the high unemployment rate in the state at 27.4 per cent, which is above the national average, and stated that career counselling support would help students make career choices based on aptitude and skills.

He also encouraged PM SHRI school teachers identified as Career Teachers to take up the responsibility seriously and guide students in choosing meaningful career paths.

Lotha reminded the teachers that the PM SHRI programme is envisioned to create exemplar schools in the country. As such, he urged them to conduct the activities with dedication and conviction.

He further emphasised the need for teachers to be receptive to new programmes and initiatives, noting that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 mandates teachers and school leaders to take on multiple roles to bring transformation in education. He added that timely guidance in career choices could help address concerns related to the high unemployment rate in the state.

A total of 40 teachers from 21 PM SHRI Government High Schools (GHS) and Government Higher Secondary Schools (GHSS) are attending the programme.

The inaugural session was chaired by Dr. Bijano Murry, Joint Mission Director, Samagra Shiksha and State Nodal Officer for PM SHRI Schools.
