Public urged to avoid pork consumption in affected areas as monitoring intensified

The Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, has issued an advisory following reports of African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak in parts of Mokokchung district.

According to the advisory issued by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, the report of ASF outbreak was received from the Office of the Chief Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Officer, Mokokchung, involving Chungtia village, Kangtsungyimsen village, and Shitikolak ward under Tuli subdivision.

In view of the outbreak, the district administration has advised the public to abstain from buying and consuming pork within the affected areas and adjoining regions.

The advisory stated that the infected areas would be strictly monitored by the Veterinary Department in coordination with the concerned administrative officers.

It further informed that the import of pigs from outside the state would be strictly monitored and regulated in accordance with relevant guidelines.

According to the advisory, all imported pig consignments entering the district would undergo mandatory testing by the Veterinary Department, while transit time within designated stockyards in Tuli subdivision should not exceed 24 hours. Fresh testing would also be mandatory before further transportation to neighbouring subdivisions and districts outside Tuli.

The administration has also directed the department concerned to closely monitor border areas and carry out extensive testing to prevent further spread of the disease.

Further, the public has been urged to remain cautious and immediately report any suspicious behaviour or suspected pig deaths linked to ASF to the Office of the Chief Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Officer, Mokokchung through Dr. Imtilong Longkumer, Veterinary Assistant Surgeon, at 9500807407.
