The Gorkha Youth Club Dimapur (GYCD) celebrated the 212th Bhanu Jayanti at Cornerstone College, Duncan Bosti, on Sunday, bringing together members of the Gorkha community to honour the legacy of Adikavi Bhanubhakta Acharya.

The programme commemorated the birth anniversary of the pioneer of Nepali literature, whose translation of the Ramayana into Nepali made the epic accessible to ordinary people and laid the foundation of modern Nepali literature.
The celebration was attended by Gorkha dignitaries, senior citizens, community leaders, intellectuals, youth representatives, students and members of various Gorkha organisations. Organisers said their participation inspired the younger generation to preserve and promote the community’s rich cultural and literary heritage.

The event was organised under the leadership of GYCD president Sumit Sunar and other office bearers of the club.
Reaffirming the organisation’s commitment to cultural preservation, the GYCD said it would continue organising programmes that honour the legacy of Bhanubhakta Acharya while strengthening cultural values and promoting unity within the Gorkha community.
Bhanu Jayanti is observed annually to celebrate the life and literary contributions of Bhanubhakta Acharya, widely revered as the “Adikavi” or first poet of Nepali literature.
