ComSR pilot project aims to transform college into a model of environmental sustainability
The Zunheboto Forest Division, in collaboration with Zunheboto Government College, will launch the Green Campus Initiative on August 12 as the first pilot project under the Community Social Responsibility (ComSR) model, an initiative aimed at promoting environmental stewardship and community participation.
According to a press release, ComSR was launched by the Zunheboto Forest Division during the first Satoi Connect Fest on March 26, 2026. The initiative is described as a people-centric model based on the belief that every individual has a responsibility towards society and the environment.
The Forest Division said that while Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) encourages businesses to contribute to social development, ComSR extends the same principle to “every citizen, institution, village, school, college, organisation and community,” encouraging voluntary action for the common good.
Built on the philosophy of “We Before Me,” the model seeks to promote a culture of volunteerism and collective responsibility by encouraging individuals and institutions to contribute their time, knowledge, skills and resources towards environmental conservation, education, public welfare and sustainable community development.
As the first pilot project under the framework, the Green Campus Initiative aims to transform Zunheboto Government College into a model of environmental sustainability. Activities under the initiative will include green audits, tree plantation, biodiversity conservation, waste segregation, water and energy conservation, reduction of single-use plastics and environmental awareness programmes. The initiative also seeks to nurture environmental leadership among students, enabling them to become ambassadors of sustainability in their homes and communities.
The organisers expressed hope that the pilot project would encourage other educational institutions, villages, government offices, civil society organisations and community groups across the district to adopt similar initiatives under the ComSR framework.
The organisers have invited students, alumni, educational institutions, government departments, civil society organisations, village leaders and members of the public to participate in the launch programme and support efforts towards building a cleaner, greener and more sustainable Zunheboto.
