Three government schools among beneficiaries; CRPF says water storage remains a concern despite adequate rainfall
The 173 Battalion CRPF distributed 11 water storage tanks to beneficiaries in Mokokchung under its Civic Action Programme (CAP) 2026-27 on Monday, September 21.
The distribution included three government schools – Government Primary School, Khensa, Government Primary School, Chuchuyimpang and Government Middle School, Chuchuyimpang besides Police Baptist Church, DEF and individual beneficiaries. According to 173 BN CRPF Assistant Commandant P Nilakanta Singh, the beneficiaries together number more than 300.
Speaking on the selection of beneficiaries, Singh said the CRPF consults local bodies, including Village Councils, while also making its own assessment before identifying beneficiaries.
Singh said water storage remains a problem in Mokokchung despite the district receiving considerable rainfall. He said the CRPF had therefore been focusing on water storage through its civic action activities and had undertaken a similar initiative last year.
He said the Civic Action Program is conducted annually under the aegis of the Inspector General, CRPF, Manipur and Nagaland Sector, and comes under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Singh also said that proposals submitted by Chuchuyimpang and Khensa villages for construction of bus stops had been forwarded to the CRPF’s higher office. He said funds under the program had been limited, particularly as the situation in Mokokchung has remained peaceful.
Government ITI Mokokchung Principal T Imlisunep Ao recalled that the CRPF had earlier assisted people in the district, including during a period when the District Hospital faced water scarcity.
Subash Arambam, Assistant Director, Painting and Stationery, Mokokchung, said the CRPF had extended assistance to civilians even before the Civic Action Programme, including in the health and agriculture sectors.
SDO Mokokchung Temsuchuba, who attended the program as chief guest, acknowledged the CRPF’s role in maintaining internal security and peace in the district.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by P Nilakanta Singh.
