Acts of Faith – The Group of 12 turns 25

In 1998, a group of 12 young friends of Sungkomen Ward were presented with the opportunity to perform at the Music Fest, an annual event organized by the Youth Department of Mokokchung Town Baptist Church. It was during this time, when they were practicing for the Music Fest, that they found the divine inspiration to form a group to “glorify God with the talent that He has bestowed.” Thus, the ‘Acts of Faith’ was born and the first ever song that they performed was the ‘River of Life’.

Since 1998, the ‘Acts of Faith’ have been witnessing God through their songs across Mokokchung, Nagaland and beyond. Today, in commemoration of 25 years of their coming together, the group led the Sunday devotion at Sungkomen Baptist Church. The proceedings of the service were led by Marshilu Pongen while R Nuklu Longkumer, Administrator of SILAS Care Centre, Dimapur pronounced the invocation.

Pastor of Kohima Ao Baptist Church, Dr SN Among Jamir shared the background of the group’s journey of 25 years while O Senti Aier, Secretary of Mongsenyimti Compound Baptist Church shared his testimony. Pastor of Naga Christian Fellowship, Chennai, Wapangtoshi Longkumer delivered the day’s sermon.

Other highlights of the day included presentation of seven songs by the Acts of Faith, mostly acapella, including a special number where the group’s members were joined by their families. Pastor of Sungkomen Baptist Church, Rev O Yashi Jamir also pronounced a special prayer for the ‘Acts of Faith’.

All the 12 members of the ‘Acts of Faith’ are now married and settled across the state and country. The group was particularly active after its formation in 1998 and during the 2000s performing regularly at various church programs, weddings, conferences and conventions. Although the group members live in different locations now, their bond and unity continues to remain as strong as ever. While acknowledging God for leading them for 25 years, the group has also conveyed gratitude to Sungkomen Baptist Church.
