The NSCN/GPRN (Niki) has expressed concern over recent reports of violence and loss of lives in southern Nagaland under UNC areas, stating that condemnation alone is not enough and calling for what it described as a “concerted effort” to protect Naga people and land.

In a statement issued by its MIP, the group said the situation called for collective action to “thwart and defend our people and lands from inimical forces,” and alleged that external actors were influencing developments in the region. The organisation further claimed that political issues were being reframed as communal or law-and-order problems, which it said could weaken Naga political positions.

The statement also alleged that communities, including the Kukis, had historically been “used by foreign occupiers” to undermine Naga rights, and described the situation as part of what it termed a broader “proxy war” affecting the region’s political landscape.

NSCN-K (Niki) further said that identity, culture, and land are inseparable for the Naga people, adding that any weakening of territorial connection would affect the community’s future. It stated that the Naga presence in the region was “destined by God,” and called for unity among Nagas across all regions, including South (UNC), Central, North, and East.

The group also cautioned that patience should not be interpreted as weakness, saying that any “misadventure” against the Naga people would have consequences. It, however, stated that Nagas, in the spirit of Christianity, continue to support peaceful relations with neighbouring communities, but “not at the expense of identity and nation.”

Calling for unity, NSCN-K (Niki) urged Naga groups to set aside differences and collectively “chalk out a strategy” to defend what it described as their people and land.

The organisation reiterated its position that it stands for the “God-given sovereign rights” of the Naga people.
