The second day of the Moatsu festival 2022 was graced by Y. Patton, Deputy Chief Minister as the chief guest, and Temjen Imna Along, Minister of Higher & Technical and Tribal Affairs, as the guest of honour, held at Imkongmeren Sports Complex in Mokokchung. The festival was also attended by nine Naga tribal hohos, which Ao Senden president Chubawati described as a historic event, while also expressing hope and aspirations that the presence of all Naga tribal bodies would strengthen inter-tribal ties and foster brotherhood.

In his speech, the deputy Chief Minister expressed special Moatsu greetings and stated that the festival should signify community bonding between the various Naga Hohos. He stated that the peaceful coexistence demonstrated during such times should also be demonstrated during election times.

He also stressed the importance of resolving the Naga political issue before the next general election stating that they are ready to step down and pave the way for the Naga national groups. He further urged the tribal leaders and citizens to advocate for an early resolution of the Naga political issue.

Temjen Imna Along stated that Moatsu today is celebrated with unity as a significant festival. He further stressed that the Aos have become more inclusive, assertive, and helpful, while also emphasizing the importance of being more responsible and humble in serving not only the Aos but the Naga community as a whole.

“We have evolved in our way of life, thinking, and create a new narrative for our people. I believe we should abandon things from the past that are no longer useful and instead be forerunners in the present,” he added.

He also urged the Aos to reconsider their decision to grant women a 33 percent reservation in order to provide women with a platform in policy making and allow them to evolve together in society. He stated that we must be courageous enough to speak out and create new heritage with respect and honour.
