The launch of ‘Vignettes’, a collection of stories by 20-year-old author Mechi Imchen, took place at a special event in Mokokchung, starting with an invocation by Sister Flowerlit, Vice Principal of Queen Mary Higher Secondary School. A note from the book’s publisher, Vishü Rita Krocha of PenThrill Publication House, was read out, in which she expressed her regret at not being able to attend due to prior travel commitments. Krocha conveyed her joy in seeing the final product of ‘Vignettes’ and thanked Mechi for choosing PenThrill, hoping for a long association in future publications.

A short book review followed, delivered by Ronojyoti Roy, who praised Mechi for becoming a published author at such a young age. He highlighted how personal experiences shaped the book and said that many readers would relate to Mechi’s reflections. Roy, an English teacher, also commended Mechi’s command of the language, sharing how he couldn’t put the book down once he began reading. He wished the book commercial success and expressed hope that Mechi would continue writing.

After a musical performance by Meyilong Jamir, Mechi Imchen took the stage to give his author’s talk. He began by thanking God and expressing his gratitude for the opportunity to launch his book. Mechi shared that each vignette captures moments from his life that he hopes readers will connect with. He thanked his father, whom he described as his rock, and paid tribute to his late mother, saying that “each page has a part of her.” He also extended his gratitude to his friends, the special guests, the host, and Ronojyoti Roy for reviewing his book and writing the foreword. Mechi concluded by saying it was a day he would never forget.

Dr Tialila, Principal of Pfutsero Government College, then read a chapter from the book titled “Fortitude,” before wishing Mechi success with the book. Imyatetla Imsong led a dedicatory prayer, giving thanks and wishing for the success of the book.

The formal release of Vignettes followed, with Dr Lanurenla, Principal of Sao Chang College, Tuensang, addressing the gathering. She spoke about the importance of literature rooted in one’s culture, encouraging Mechi to continue writing and to incorporate his heritage into his work so others may learn about it. The program concluded with a benediction, and the book is now available for purchase at Ilandlo’s website and store.
