Kohima, February 21 (MTNews): The Chief Electoral Office, Nagaland on Tuesday notified that, as per Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the campaigning period for General Election to the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly shall come to an end at 4:00 PM of February 25.
It further notified that public meetings will be prohibited during the period of forty-eight hours ending with the hour fixed for conclusion of polls.
During this period, no person shall convene, hold or attend, join or address any public meeting or procession in connection with an election, the notification stated.
Display to the public any election matter by means of cinematograph, television or other similar apparatus are also prohibited during this period.
Further, propagation of “any election matter to the public by holding, or by arranging the holding of, any musical concert or any theatrical performance or any other entertainment or amusement with a view to attracting the members of the public” are also prohibited.
“Any person who contravenes this provision shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both,” the notification stated.
Meanwhile, the CEO directed the District Election Administration and Police Administration to ensure that all political functionaries leave the constituency immediately after the campaign period is over.
However, the said restriction may not be insisted upon the office bearer of the political party who is in-charge of the State, it said.
Such office bearer of the political party shall declare his/her place of stay in the State Headquarters and the movement during the period in question shall remain confined normally between his party office and place of his stay, it added.
