The Central Government is set to hold a fresh round of talks with the United Naga Council (UNC) to address its demand for the rollback of seven newly created districts in the state.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) announced that a tripartite meeting, including representatives from the Centre, the Manipur government, and the UNC, is scheduled to take place on November 13 in Senapati. This meeting follows a previous round of discussions held on October 11, where the UNC reiterated its opposition to the district reorganization.

The UNC has argued that the creation of the new districts, first implemented in 2016, has disrupted traditional Naga administrative boundaries and undermined local autonomy. The issue has been a point of contention ever since, sparking protests and ongoing negotiations over the years.

The upcoming talks are being viewed as a crucial step in addressing the longstanding concerns regarding regional boundaries and governance. Stakeholders are hopeful that the discussions will lead to a resolution that balances the state’s administrative requirements with the interests of the Naga community.
