The Office of the Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, has lodged a formal complaint against Shikato Swu, NPS, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Noklak, for his conduct during a recent inspection of a disputed area between Kiyevi and Namhai-Lamhai villages.

In a letter dated October 23, 2024, addressed to the Director General of Police, Nagaland, Commissioner of Police Kevithuto Sophie detailed the events that unfolded on October 21, 2024. “On the directives issued by the Western Sumi Kukami Hoho (WSKH), all the GBs of Aqahuto area had gathered at Shokhuvi village at 0900 hrs and proceeded to Kiyevi village to inspect the disputed areas,” the letter states. Approximately 250 to 300 individuals, including Gaon Burhas (GBs) and their followers, gathered at Kiyevi village for this purpose.

However, the group was reportedly met with resistance from magistrates and police officers from Chumoukedima and Peren districts, who informed them that “prohibitory orders are in place” and thus, permission to visit the disputed sites could not be granted.

Tensions escalated when a Tata mobile truck, bearing registration number NL-07A9585 and carrying around ten local youths from Kiyevi village, attempted to enter the disputed area under the leadership of Shri. Shikato Swu. “Shri. Shikato Swu reportedly used abusive and condescending language in public at the Magistrates and police officers,” the complaint alleges. Despite the heated argument, the officers on duty “maintained utmost restraint and professionalism” to control the situation.

The letter concludes with a call for accountability, stating, “The behavior of our Police officer, Shri. Shikato Swu… is seen unbecoming and not expected of a government servant.” The Commissioner has urged the authorities to take appropriate action against the erring officer to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future.
