National Coordinator of the AICC Minority Department and senior Congress leader from Nagaland, Rajesh Kumar Sethi, has sharply criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s tenure, calling the 11-year period from 2014 to 2025 an era of “false promises, betrayal, and anti-people policies.”
Addressing the media, Sethi said that the Modi-led government’s rule was “nothing more than a propaganda-driven phase, with little to show on the ground.” He asserted that the promises which once stirred hope among the Indian masses have “either been abandoned, failed, or were never intended to be fulfilled.”
He listed what he termed the “major false promises of PM Modi” and contrasted them with what he called the grim ground realities:
· “Promise to bring back black money in 100 days – Not a single rupee came back.”
· “Promise of ¹ 15 lakh in every Indian’s account – Later termed a ‘jumla’ by BJP leaders themselves.”
· “Promise of 2 crore jobs every year – Instead, India saw the worst unemployment in 45 years.”
· “Promise to reduce fuel prices – Today, petrol and diesel prices are at record highs.”
· “Ganga river cleaning mission – Failed due to corruption and delays.”
· “Doubling of farmers’ income by 2022 – Farmers continue to suffer from debt and low returns.”
· “$5 trillion economy by 2022 – Even the government has quietly shelved the target.”
· “Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train by 2022 – Project still in limbo in 2025.”
· “Malnutrition-free India by 2022 – India still ranks poorly on global hunger indexes.”
· “24/7 electricity in every household – Many villages in Nagaland still face frequent blackouts.”
· “Internet in every village, toilets for all, safe railways – Tall claims, little reality.”
The 11 years of Modi rule have not brought development but devastation. It is time to end this era of deceit and build a truly accountable, inclusive, and development-oriented government, Sethi added.
