The Department of Health & Family Welfare (DHFW) has announced the cancellation of 24 retail pharmacy drug licenses in Dimapur and Chumoukedima districts due to non-compliance with regulatory requirements. A public notice issued on 31st January 2025 revealed that despite multiple notices and adequate time given for the employment of a Registered Pharmacist, the pharmacies failed to meet the necessary conditions under Rule-65 of the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules 1945.

The pharmacies affected by the cancellation are as follows: R.S. Pharma, Life Guard Medical, Rita Medical, Vito Medical Hall, New Sky Medical, Shifa Medical, Naz Medical, Aristo Medical, Nioti Medical, Jonoprioy Medical, Royal Medicos, Tanushree Medical, Saswata Medical, Nirmala Medical, N.H. Pharmacy, Medi Point, Sujata Medical Store, M.N. Medical, Bethesda Medical, Maa Pharmacy, Paul Pharmacy, Town Pharmacy, Sarkar Medical, and Ura Pharmacy.

The DHFW has warned that supplying medicines to these pharmacies will be considered a violation of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940, and legal actions will be taken against suppliers or wholesalers who engage with these pharmacies.

Additionally, the DHFW emphasized that pharmacies that fail to renew their licenses within six months after expiration will have their licenses deemed cancelled or invalid, as per Rule-63. Violation of this rule could result in imprisonment for up to five years and a fine of no less than Rs 1 lakh or three times the value of the confiscated drugs.

Furthermore, the department has directed all licensed retailers and wholesalers to register immediately on the Online National Drugs Licensing System (ONDLS) Portal. The DHFW also expressed appreciation for the support provided by the district administrations of Dimapur and Chumoukedima, as well as the Commissioner of Police, for assisting in enforcement activities during the process.
