The DREAM Nagaland initiative (Disability Research, Empowerment and Accessibility Mission) has successfully wrapped up its extensive field research phase, covering all 17 districts of the state. This marks a significant milestone in capturing the lived experiences, needs, and challenges faced by Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) and their caregivers throughout Nagaland.
Launched by the Directorate of Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship in partnership with NagaEd, DREAM Nagaland aims to develop inclusive policies and programs grounded in authentic, community-driven data. Over recent weeks, NagaEd and partner organizations including the Nagaland State Disability Forum (NSDF), Prodigals’ Home, Differently Abled People’s Organization Peren, and Mokokchung District Disabled Forum engaged with hundreds of individuals from diverse urban and rural settings. Activities ranged from surveys and listening sessions to storytelling, ensuring that the voices of PwDs and their caregivers were heard directly.
“This phase of the project has been a powerful reminder that real inclusion begins with listening. We are grateful to every person who shared their story and trusted us with their truth,” said Aonok Aier, Senior Project Manager at NagaEd.
With fieldwork completed, the project now transitions to the crucial data analysis and report development stage. This next phase will be undertaken collaboratively with the Directorate of Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and other stakeholders. The forthcoming report will combine quantitative data and qualitative insights, providing actionable recommendations for improving disability-inclusive services, infrastructure, education, livelihood opportunities, and caregiver support systems.
Kevisato Sanyü, Founder of NagaEd, emphasizing the significance of this work said, “This is more than just a report. It’s a blueprint for change. We look forward to reviewing the findings and ensuring that the voices of persons with disabilities are at the center of every decision moving forward.”
The DREAM Nagaland project team expressed gratitude to all partners, enumerators, local leaders, and most importantly, the PwDs and caregivers whose participation made the research possible.
The initiative marks a foundational step towards building a stronger, more inclusive Nagaland, one where “every voice matters and every person belongs.”
