Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh passed away on Thursday at the age of 92 in Delhi. Reports of his demise surfaced shortly after he was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi on Thursday evening as his health deteriorated. He was reportedly taken to the hospital’s emergency department, according to Free Press Journal.
Manmohan Singh served as India’s prime minister from 2004 to 2014 during the UPA I and UPA II governments. Known as the architect of India’s economic liberalization, Singh gained national recognition as the finance minister in the PV Narasimha Rao government from 1991 to 1996, where his sweeping economic reforms transformed the Indian economy.
Singh, who was a Rajya Sabha member until earlier this year, leaves behind a legacy of visionary leadership and economic progress.
Nagaland to Observe 7 Days of State Mourning
With the passing of Dr. Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister of India, the state Home Department has notified that as a mark of respect to the departed dignitary, seven days of State Mourning shall be observed in Nagaland, from 26 December 2024 to 1 January 2025, both days inclusive.
During this period, the National Flag shall be flown at half-mast in all places in the State where the National Flag is regularly flown. It added that there shall be no official entertainment during the period of State Mourning.
Lok Janshakti Party Ramvilas Mourns
The Lok Janshakti Party Ramvilas expressed profound sorrow over the demise of India’s former Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh. In a statement released by the party, National Secretary S Richard Humtsoe extended heartfelt condolences to Dr Singh’s bereaved family and admirers.
“Dr Manmohan Singh played a key role in rebuilding India’s economy during challenging times,” the statement read. ” He was widely respected for his service and intellect. His contribution to India’s progress will always be remembered.”
The party acknowledged Dr Singh’s pivotal role in initiating economic reforms that set the stage for India’s rapid economic growth and development.
The Lok Janshakti Party Ramvilas concluded its message by offering prayers for the departed leader, stating, “We pray that his soul rests in peace.”
