Kohima, 14 June: The Governor of Nagaland La Ganesan felicitated the Toppers, Rank holders and achievers of various categories of HSLC and HSSLC Examination 2023 (NBSE) at Raj Bhavan, Kohima on 14th June 2023.

Speaking during the function, the Governor said that it is an auspicious day for everyone to appreciate and acknowledge the young achievers who have worked so hard to attain success. The achievers have made everyone proud including their family, school and society through their hard work and sincerity. The Governor expressed his hope that they will bring more laurels to the state in the future as they pursue their higher studies.

 

The Governor urged the students to always remember that they are the future of society and he also said passing out with flying colours have not only affirmed their talent and potential but it should also re-affirm their responsibility towards their families, society, state and the country. He apprised them that as they proceed higher in studies, they will be confronted with different challenges. He further added that their sense of responsibility and obligations should be the cornerstone of their life and whatever they do, they should always remember that they carry the hopes and wishes of not only their family but the society and the state as well.

 

The governor stated that the New Education Policy 2023 is considered a watershed moment in India’s educational system. He mentioned that after 34 years following the same system, significant changes to the education policy were made on 29th July 2020. The NEP aims to raise the standard of education in India to a global level, he said. The Governor also added that the principles of NEP is to determine and nurture the child’s potential, increase the child’s reading and numeracy knowledge and also improve their creativity and logical thinking. Governor said that this is envisioned to be achieved through providing flexible learning opportunities and exposing the children to a healthy mix of the best of both cultural values and modern educational practices. He also pointed out that the NEP intends to make the Indian educational system more inclusive, flexible and learned-centre. He underlined that a good number of graduates are being produced each year but are not adequately equipped to be employable in the job market. This pressing issue is expected to be addressed by the NEP, he stated.

 

The governor urged the students that they need to imbibe good ethical values of honesty, integrity, patriotism, empathy and love towards their fellowmen especially the weaker section. He also encouraged them that these values will hold them in good stead as they are going to hold important positions in society and the government one day.

 

The Governor expressed his happiness that for the past few years’ equal importance is given to daughters along with the sons which is a reflection of gender equality. He informed people to understand that women make up about half of our country’s total population and for India to develop, there must be gender equality.

 

Governor also presented awards and certificates to various achievers. All together 62 HSLC/HSSLC achievers were awarded. The awards included Governor Awards to HSLC/ HSSLC Toppers, Achievers in MILs & Skill Education subjects, toppers of Government School, toppers among Eastern Nagaland Students, Governor Excellence Award for Science Study (HSSLC) and NBSE Awards to HSLC & HSSLC Toppers.

 

Commissioner& Secretary, School Education Kevileno Angami in her short speech, encouraged the students of the importance of time management and to maintain consistency in their studies with hard work and determination to achieve greater heights.

 

DC, Chumoukedima Abhinam IAS and SP Kohima Imnalensa IPS motivated the participants and shared experiences during their student life. All the Toppers of different fields of HSLC and HSSLC – Christy Paul Mathew, DBHSS, Dimapur; Moanola Longchar , THSS, Mokokchung; Zahid Ahmed Laskar, CHSS, Dimapur; and Awang P Yimpushu, St. JHSS, Dimapur shared their successful stories.

 

Earlier, Chairman NBSE Aseno Sekhose gave an introductory speech. Special song was presented by Peteruokuo Kuotsu, Chieli Music Academy, Kohima and Northfield School, Kohima. The Secretary CEDOK, Rev.Fr.Dr. Jacob Charalel invoked God’s blessings, while the Vote of Thanks was delivered by Principal Director, School Education Thavaseelan K IAS. The program was conducted by Lucy Konyak.
