The Power Department of Nagaland has completed the award process for tenders under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), with works expected to commence soon. Governor of Nagaland, La Ganesan, highlighted this development in his speech during the 6th session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA). The Governor mentioned that Government of India has sanctioned an amount of Rs 667 crores for the scheme.
Under the “Green Village Initiatives” program, he said, 23 villages have been selected for free LED luminaries’ distribution. Additionally, the department is upgrading the transformation capacity of the Nagarjan Substation at a cost of Rs 24 crore.
According to the governor, to address the increasing demand for electricity in the Dimapur Load Centre, a new substation and associated transmission lines are being constructed under Chumoukedima District.
As part of the Prime Minister’s Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG-MBY), the Power Department has successfully installed seven rooftop solar panels with a total installed capacity of 24.11 kWp, the governor said. The department is also utilizing Rs 20 crore under Special Assistance to State for Capital Investment to install 18,000 smart prepaid meters in Dimapur and Kohima towns.
To promote renewable energy, the department has constructed a 2.4 MW Duilumroi Small Hydro Project in Peren District, with a project cost of Rs 40 crore under the State Plan. The government is also focusing on harnessing solar power potential, with ongoing projects under both central and state schemes.
Additionally, the governor informed that the Department of New and Renewable Energy has installed a 5 MW Solar Power Plant (Phase-I) at Hovukhu Village in Niuland District. Phase-II of the project, with a similar capacity, is expected to be completed this fiscal year. Another 5 MW Solar Power Plant is under implementation at Zhadima Village/Teichuma Village.
