The Langpangkong Senso Telongjem Mokokchung held its 34th General Meeting on Saturday, 25 May, at Town Hall Mokokchung. The event was graced by the presence of Toshikaba, Executive Engineer of PWD (R&B) Mokokchung, and Marsanen Imsong, the newly elected President of Ao Senden.

Exhorting the attendees, Toshikaba reflected on the Nagaland state’s progress since attaining statehood in 1963, recalling that there were initially only three districts – Kohima, Mokokchung, and Tuensang.

He recounted the pivotal role of the Ao community in the progress of Naga society who were pioneers in adopting Christianity and education early on.

The Executive Engineer also reflected on the history of the Langpangkong Tzükong Mungdang (LTM), founded in 1933 primarily with the goal of advocating for road construction and unity.

He commended the Langpangkong Senso Telongjem Mokokchung for its 34 years of existence, noting that over a thousand Langpangkong Tzükong families reside in Mokokchung Town as of today. He said that it was important to introspect on “how are we living, and what are our thoughts on our future.”

Emphasizing sustainable development, Toshikaba referred to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Mission 2030. He stressed the importance of grassroots efforts to achieve these goals, mentioning the 17 goals which include no poverty, quality education, clean energy, and sustainable cities among others. He urged the community to leverage technological advancements and work together towards attaining these objectives.

Toshikaba also pointed out the potential of utilizing available land for sustainable living, rather than relying solely on government jobs and services. He emphasized the need to preserve natural resources and avoid practices that harm the environment, such as pollution from industries and hunting wildlife.

Making his first public speech as President of Ao Senden, Marsanen Imsong expressed pride in his new role and a commitment to the Ao community’s advancement. He highlighted the historical importance of LTM, founded with the vision of road connectivity and unity, and stressed the need for comprehensive development. He called for collective efforts towards the prosperity of the Langpangkong people and the broader Naga community.

Imsong assured that he, along with his office bearers, is committed to addressing the stagnant economic situation and emphasized the need for wisdom, knowledge, and prayers from the community to support their initiatives.

He noted the importance of utilizing government schemes effectively for holistic development.

Imsong also highlighted the unique cultural diversity of the Langpangkong Tzükong range and Mokokchung district, which includes the presence of Phom and Chang Nagas. He expressed pride in this diversity and encouraged all villages to ensure inclusive development, leaving no one behind.

The meeting commenced with an address by Imlimatsung, President of Langpangkong Senso Telongjem Mokokchung, followed by an invocation by Bendang Jamir, Pastor of MTBA. Mass participation in singing the anthem, “Kü Langpangkong,” and a cultural folk song performance by Mokokchung Town Chuchuyimlang Senso Telongjem were the other highlights of the event.

Tabling of reports in the business session included the General Secretary’s report, Finance report, Nomination Committee report, Langpangkong Kaketshir Telongjem Mokokchung, and LSTM site committee report.
