Mokokchung, 29 April (MTNews): The state government responded to the charter of demands posed by the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) stating that GST or any other legal tax is to be paid only to the State Government by any business organization/individual.

It may be noted that the DCCI had submitted a charter of demands to the Chief Minister of Nagaland regarding its indefinite shutter down protest where they demanded immediate clarification from the state government on whether the business community pay GST or Taxation to NPGs and clarify whether taxation imposed by NPG is legal or illegal.

“The State Government does not support, and is fully against any illegal taxation or forcible demand or collection by any group or entity or individual in the State,” the government responded.

Regarding the summoning of the business community to NPGs offices, Camps and Monitoring Cells, the state government said that only the statutory bodies/ law enforcement agencies of the State Government are empowered to issue summons to anyone who is in conflict with the law.

“Summons by any other group/entity/individual is illegal and the aggrieved person may approach the law enforcing authorities for redressal of their grievances,” it added.

It further maintained that only the statutory bodies are empowered to conduct raids by the State Government on so-called duplicate products, MRP tempering, expiry checking. Regarding extortion, kidnapping and waylaid of transport, it said the State government has empowered the police and district administration to act upon each and every complaint in this regard swiftly and book the culprits under the law and National Security Act to ensure safety and security of every individual in the state.

“Any aggrieved person may approach the law enforcing agencies in this regard,” it added.
