In a historic first, Nokpu Village in Mangkolemba Subdivision, Mokokchung District, has inaugurated the Liangmen Fish Sanctuary on June 21 to protect its aquatic wildlife.

Community members release fingerlings into the Liangmen River during the inauguration of the Liangmen Fish Sanctuary on June 21.

This initiative, spearheaded by the Tzükhuchanger Jupang in collaboration with the Nokpu Village Council and the Saringyim (Nokpu B) Village Council, saw the release of approximately 50,000 fingerlings into the Liangmen River.

The sanctuary aims to raise awareness about conserving local flora and fauna while maintaining the ecological balance of nature. Beyond conservation, it is set to become a scenic spot for travelers and nature enthusiasts, offering a serene escape amidst thriving biodiversity.

The Tzükhuchanger Jupang and both village councils extended their gratitude to Mr. Temsuwapang Longchar (AFI Mokokchung) for his unwavering support in arranging the fish nursery. Special appreciation was also extended to Mr. Lanuchuba Imchen (DMC Councillor, Ward 20) for his significant contributions to the cause.

Looking ahead, the Jupang revealed plans for an even larger conservation project encompassing both flora and fauna, further strengthening efforts to protect the environment and preserve ecological harmony.
