Longleng, November 11 (MTNews): Shortage of teachers in the government schools have been reported in Longleng district. In Longleng, there are 15 Government High Schools (GHS), and 7 of them are functioning without math teachers, 10 without English teachers, 2 without science teachers, and 5 without Hindi teachers. This was brought up on Thursday, November 10 during the Longleng District Planning & Development Board meeting by Sr. SDEO & DEO in-charge Longleng, Yahuto Kath.

According to the school’s standard criteria, Kath stated that the actual teacher requirements in these 15 GHS are 21 Maths Teachers, 17 Science Teachers, 10 English Teachers, and 11 Hindi Graduate Teachers. He said that shortage of major subject teachers is directly affecting the students’ performance in their examinations.

Kath went on to say that even in the district’s 18 GMS, there are no fourth grade staff and suggested for post creations. Shortage of major subject teachers is directly affecting the students’ performance in their examinations, he pointed out.

In addition to the Sr. SDEO, the DC of Longleng Dharam Raj, IAS, lamented that with such a situation, the grievances of the district’s government schools will continue unless the government comes up with a new policy to address the issues.

“Without Maths and Science teachers, we cannot expect our students to become Maths and Science teachers in the future, and the problems will continue until a decision is made at a higher level,” he added.
After deliberating on the issue, the house forwarded the approval of teachers’ requirements and creation of fourth grade staff of the schools.
