Lotha Students’ Union Bengaluru observed its 27th Freshers’ Meet under the theme “Transcending Cultural Amnesia” on 24 August 2024, at Paalaana Bhavana Premises, Benson Town, Bengaluru.
The special guest of the event was Dr Eyingbeni Humtsoe Nienu, Faculty at Christian Theological College Bengaluru.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Nienu emphasized the motto of LSUB and the theme of the Freshers’ Meet. “We need to revitalize many of our good cultural practices and transcend the past to move forward,” she stated.
Her advice to the students was to develop intellectual curiosity through reading, studying, reasoning, and polling opinions to determine the best solutions. She urged students to be optimistic, avoid toxic positivity, and recognize that negativism is a parasite that can destroy from within.
She reminded the audience to cherish the wisdom of their ancestors, make new friends, generate fresh ideas, build relationships, and amend lifestyles for better sustenance. “Strive to be both local and global (glocal) and make an inclusive impact wherever we are—at work, in institutes, and in our neighborhoods.”
Dr Ngullie stressed the significance of freedom, excellence, and morality in engagement. She highlighted the pursuit of excellence while adhering to ethical principles and advocating for students’ welfare. “Genuine success is measured not only by achievements but also by the ethical approach characterized by honesty, respect, and commitment to doing good for others,” she opined.
