Following a “massive road sinking situation on National Highway-2 (Kohima to Mao road), near Phesama, between Chainage KM 192.050 to KM 192.150,” the Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, B. Henok Buchem, NCS, has issued a travel advisory on June 1, 2025. The affected portion has led to the “complete closure of the National Highway,” the advisory stated.
In response to the disruption, traffic regulations have been put in place “till further notice” to manage vehicular movement along the stretch.
According to the travel advisory: “All heavy vehicles coming towards Kohima from Manipur shall be stopped at Khuzama.”
“All Southern/Manipur bound heavy vehicles coming from Dimapur shall be stopped at Sechü-Subza.”
Alternative routes for Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) have also been notified: “Kohima bound vehicles may take: Demori Cove/JCC–Kisama–Phesama (One way only).”
“Southern/Manipur bound vehicles may take: BSF Camp–Chakhabama–Kidima–Viswema/Mao Gate Route.”
Furthermore, the district administration has urged caution to residents in the vicinity. “The general public is cautioned not to go near the affected electric poles and conductors till the department undertakes necessary measures,” the advisory warned.
