Mokokchung, 15 June (MTNews): The Mokokchung District Disabled Forum (MDDF) today organized an awareness program on persons with disabilities in collaboration with the Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Nagaland, Kohima.

During the program, Arenlila Jamir, Project Associate from CBR Caritas India, delivered the welcome note. EAC Kobulong Seyievilie Pfukri and CDPO Kobulong Imliyanger delivered short speeches, emphasizing the importance of sincerity in addressing the issues faced by persons with disabilities (PwDs). They urged the stakeholders and attendees to understand the needs of PwDs, protect their rights, and work towards their upliftment.

 

Resource Persons Kezhaleto Zecho, Senior Executive of NSDF, and Ngaugongbe, Joint Secretary of NSDF, shed light on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016. They provided valuable insights into the legal framework and provisions surrounding PwDs.

 

Imkongnungchet Kichu, President of MDDF, discussed the current status of PwDs and highlighted the functions of Disabled People’s Organizations (DPOs). He urged village councils, churches, and community members to extend their support and assistance to PwDs.

 

The event took place at Senden Salang in Kobulong and was chaired by Mr Sungjemrenba, the Assistant Pastor of Youth, Mopungchuket Baptist Church. O Alang, Pastor of Kobulong Baptist Church, invoked blessings for the program. The program concluded with a mass prayer.
