Following the shocking incident where a Class 9 student from Kejok Village, was allegedly brutally assaulted by one Mrs Nungshitula, a resident of Majakong Ward in Mokokchung Town, this newspaper has learned that a Zero FIR was lodged in Tuensang Police Station on 10 June.

A Zero FIR is an FIR that can be registered at any police station, irrespective of jurisdiction, when a complaint regarding a cognizable offence is received.

According to the FIR copy, the delay in filing the complaint was due to the complainant taking the child back to Tuensang on June 6, 2024. After discussions, the FIR was lodged at Tuensang Police Station on June 10, 2024.

The case has been booked under IPC Sections 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 324 (Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), as well as Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act, which pertains to cruelty to a child.
