Mokokchung, 20 December (MTNews): Mokokchung Town will be celebrating the 50th edition of the Inter-Ward Christmas Cake Race on 23 December, Chumlamo Humtsoe, ADC & Administrator, Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) and Convenor, Steering Committee informed in a press conference held at MMC Conference Hall today.
Humtsoe informed that the 50th edition of the Inter-Ward Christmas Cake Race was supposed to be celebrated in 2021 but due to the pandemic two editions were cancelled. He informed that in this year’s edition, the whole of Mokokchung is coming forward to organize the event. The Mokokchung Municipal Council, District Administration, All Ward Union, Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem, Bakery and Restaurant Association Mokokchung, Pick-up Truck Owners Association Mokokchung, Mokokchung District Athletics Association to name are few are all engaged in the organization of the event.
The convener further informed that the event will be a plastic-free event where single-use plastic will not be utilized. The event is organized by the Mokokchung Municipal Council in collaboration with the Seasonal Club, Mokokchung. It may be mentioned here that it was the Seasonal Club Mokokchung who organized the first Inter-Ward Christmas Cake Race in 1971.
The event will start at 7:00 am on 23 December at main town square and Sharingain Longkumer, Speaker, Nagaland Legislative Assembly will be the guest of honour. 11 participants each from all the 18 wards will participate in the event. Along with the cake race, there will also be a fancy dress competition among the 18 wards on the theme “The Three Magi.”
The MMC Best Maintained Ward Award will also be given away at the same event, including the “most progressed ward,” it was informed.
