The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) 26 Aonglenden Mandal, held a protest outside the BJP Mokokchung District office on 24 January against the 40:20 seat sharing between BJP and NDPP and stated that they do not support the seat sharing between the two parties. Party workers also demanded a ticket for Toshipokba Longkumer, ex-MLA , from 26 Aonglenden Assembly Consituency for the upcoming General Election 2023 stating that 26 Aonglenden A/C has the highest enrollment amongst all the BJP mandals in Mokokchung District.

Meanwhile, according to the protestors in Dimapur, all 60 BJP Mandal presidents held a meeting earlier on Tuesday morning and have resolved to not accept the seat-sharing deal and threatened mass resignation if the central leadership doesn’t listen to them.

Representatives from various ‘Mandals’ of BJP Mokokchung District held a meeting today intended at sending a message against the NDPP-BJP seat-sharing deal. “The BJP Mokokchung District do not accept the seat sharing formula for the upcoming Nagaland Legislative Assembly 2023” was seen on the banner of today’s meeting held at BJP Mokokchung District office, January 24.

Temjen Imna Along, the party’s state president, and Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton are said to have travelled to Guwahati today to meet with the BJP’s national general secretary, BL Santosh, and the convener of the North East Democratic Alliance, Himanta Biswa Sarma, to discuss the matter.

The local BJP leaders protest with placards reading, “When Meghalaya has only two sitting BJP MLAs and is contesting from all 60 mandals, then why is Nagaland being given step-motherly treatment by being allowed to contest only 20 of the 60 seats.”

“Why does Himanta Biswa Sarma of Assam have the authority to decide the future of another state? Why not PM Modi?” read another.

“Over the years, the Mandal presidents and workers have gone door-to-door campaigning explaining to people what the BJP and Modi government is. We know the level of support the BJP party has at the grassroots level. Which central leadership or state leadership has done the survey? Why didn’t they come and ask us?” the protestors said.

“We are ready to contest in all 60 seats. We are confident that we will at least win 30 to 32,” the protesters added, saying that they do not care about the alliance and asserted that by hook or crook, the BJP must contest in all 60 seats.
